Tone Damli removes Tesla reference in Lyrics Ahead of Melodi Grand Prix Grand Final

By Jungle TelegraphFebruary 15, 2025 Article 346 Views

Tone Damli has announced a last-minute change to her song lyrics for the Melodi Grand Prix finale, choosing to remove a mention of Tesla due to her discomfort with the brand and its CEO, Elon Musk.

Tone Damli’s Last-Minute Update

In a surprising turn of events just hours before the grand finale of Melodi Grand Prix, Tone Damli has announced a significant change to her song lyrics. The 36-year-old artist confirmed to VG that she has decided to remove a reference to Tesla from her track, citing a growing discomfort with the mention of the car brand and its founder, Elon Musk.

A Shift in Perspective

Tone Damli explained that her unease developed over the past few weeks, leading her to feel it was best to omit the line about «rolling up in a Tesla». She felt the need for a lyrical change, especially in light of recent events that have shaped public perception of the company and its controversial CEO. «It peaked in the last week with everything you have seen, heard, and read, and I do not want to be someone who fronts Tesla and Musk». she stated.

Return to the Spotlight

Tone Damli first captured the public’s heart as a teenager on the show Idol in 2005, and her journey in the music industry has been remarkable. Approaching the stage at Oslo Spektrum, this will be her third appearance at Melodi Grand Prix. In 2009, she achieved great success with her song «Butterflies», which remains a fan favorite. Now, as she returns with her latest track «Last Song», she showcases a vibrant and positive energy that reflects her growth as an artist over the past 20 years.

NRK are airing MGP 2025 tonight (15 February 2025) 19.50 CET.
