A*Teens return after 20 years and smash into the Melodifestivalen final

By Jungle TelegraphFebruary 2, 2026 Article 171 Views

A*Teens blast into the Melodifestivalen 2026 final with «Iconic», their first new music in over 20 years. The Swedish pop legends return with a star‑studded songwriting team and a global fanbase ready for their long‑awaited comeback.

A*Teens have done the unthinkable — after more than two decades away from the charts, Sweden’s beloved pop powerhouse stormed straight into the Melodifestivalen 2026 final with their comeback single Iconic, their first new release in over 20 years.

The track, already being hailed as a nostalgia-fuelled dance‑pop rocket, comes courtesy of a Swedish songwriting dream team: Dino Medanhodzic, Lina Hansson, Jimmy Jansson, Moa «Cazzi Opeia» Carlebecker and hit machine Thomas G:son — the very architects behind Loreen’s Eurovision smashes Euphoria and Tattoo. With that pedigree, it’s no wonder the group themselves are calling the song exactly what it is: «iconic».

A*Teens’ return to the Mello stage has been brewing ever since their show‑stopping medley at Melodifestivalen 2024, where they blended their own hits with ABBA classics in a performance that sent social media into meltdown. What looked like a one‑off reunion turned out to be the spark for a full‑scale comeback.

The group say the overwhelming reaction two years ago pushed them back into the studio and out on the road. Since then, they’ve toured the world — from Chile and Argentina to Mexico, the UK, Spain and Norway’s We Love The 90’s arena shows — reconnecting with fans who grew up on Upside Down, Halfway Around the World and their Disney‑approved cover of Can’t Help Falling in Love.

Formed in 1998, A*Teens became global teen‑pop royalty with «The ABBA Generation, a debut album that shifted more than 2 million copies and went gold or platinum in over 22 countries. They even toured with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake at the height of their fame, cementing their status as one of Sweden’s most successful pop exports.

Their 25th anniversary in 2024 brought a wave of renewed interest thanks to the SVT documentary «A*Teens: Försoningen» and a fresh remix of «Dancing Queen» by GRAMMY‑nominated producer Chris Varvaro, created exclusively for Marvel’s blockbuster «Venom: The Last Dance».

Now, with «Iconic» blasting them straight into the Melodifestivalen final (6 March 2026 in Stockholm) last weekend, A*Teens are proving they’re not just back — they’re ready to reclaim their pop crown. The nostalgia is real, the fanbase is fired up, and Sweden’s original teen sensations are once again centre stage.
